Kayleigh's Therapy

So I must start off...Brent and Jordan are making fun of me. I had a brain fart on how to spell therapy and I spelled it thereapy, why? I don't know I just did, but now they are making fun of me.

Anyways....Kayleigh was diagnosed with ODD, Oppostitional Defiant Disorder, a few months ago. We have done much research and called many organizations for God to lead us to only the best. It is called PCIT, Parent Child Interactive Therapy. Last Wednesday was our first appointment. Basically all they did the first session was go over how it was all going to work and assess my thoughts on Kayleigh. This Wednesday we went again for our next appointment. Now they personally observed Kayleigh and her behavior. We went into this room, "the activity room" where there was a table with three buckets of toys. Only Kayleigh and I sit in the room while I wear a headpiece and the therapist is in the room next to us viewing us from a one way mirrored glass. Awesome right...so the therapist tells me to have Kayleigh play with whatever toy she wants and for me to follow her directions. Obviously no problems here, Kayleigh was the one giving directions on what she wanted me and her to do. After 5 min. the therapist told me to put everything away and to pull out a toy I wanted to play with and to have her follow my directions. Oh boy I knew I was in trouble. So I put all the toys away and Kayleigh went into her "crazy" mode. We played like that for 5 min or should I say I played while she threw toys, called me stupid and screamed the whole time:) Then the therapist told me to have her clean up all the toys and she would be right in. Yah right! But I sat there with Kayleigh for another 5 min trying to get her to pick up the toys. The session was done and Kayleigh went out to the free childcare that they provide for all my kids and I went over Kayleigh's assessment with her. The therapist was very postitive and said this would be "fun". Fun for whom I wonder?:) I think around the 4th session, the whole hour will be in the activity room with the therapist observing from the other room. The best thing about it...each session cost $50-120, but we were granted in:) A blessing from the Lord. I feel hope now and see the light at the end of the tunnel.

The Lord must have known that Brent and I could handle everything He has given us. Our marriage is that much stronger. For us to have our own child die in our arms and then have gone through the fun time of an ODD child for the last 3 years, God must be watching over us and walking us through every step! Otherwise we would have been divorced by now and very angry at each other, the world and God. I know one day Brent and I will be able to enjoy Kayleigh as much we enjoy the other 3.

By the way, Journey is a blessing. The girl hardly ever cries and mostly laughs and coos. She doesnt even cry when she wakes up after a long night of sleeping. She just plays until I wake up and feed her. How awesome is that?! :)

Update...

It has been awhile since I have posted and updated everyone on what has been going on. So here it goes...

After the girls birthday party I must admit I had some withdrawals since I love planning parties especially birthday ones, so needless to say I have already started planning Journey's as well as the girls party for next year:)

Jordan left for camp through his youth group at church and went tent camping in Mammoth for 6 nights. He had a blast and didn't want to come home!

Kayleigh started swim classes at the end of June and Trinity and I took Mommy and Me swim classes. Kayleigh did awesome and learned a lot of stuff. She is now comfortable going under water on her own and is very good at the kickboard on her own. As for Trinity, the girl is a water baby. She would get out of the pool and jump into the water with me catching her. She wanted to go underwater when she jumped in too. The girl can even dog paddle, of course I have to hold on to her but she kicks and moves her arms while directing me with her body on where to go. We finished those last week.

We went to the fair on opening day and had a blast! We started the day out with free Chick Fil A. Chick Fil A was having an event all day that if you dressed up as a cow you got any meal for free. So all of us, but Journey, dressed up as cows and received free breakfast, lunch and 2 dinners that day for every single one of us and Jordan's BFF. We think we ate over $120 worth of food that day for all of us together. We even ate leftover Chick Fil A for about 2 days after that. We then got into the fair for free and had free parking since it was opening day. It was an awesome day and it was all FREE:)

Last weekend we had 2 birthday parties for one of Kayleigh's friends and one of Trinity's. The first one was a swim party which we had a blast at. All 3 of the kids swam for 7 hours!!!! The next day we had a birthday party in our complex, a Princess party! The girls had a blast swimming and bouncing in the bounce house, eating snow cones and have cake and ice cream. It was a great party weekend.

Both Journey and Trinity had their well checkups on Tuesday and overall they are doing great. They will both be about 5'5" when they are older which I am actually happy about. Being 5'8 it was always kind of difficult finding taller guys, so they shouldn't have any trouble.

Kayleigh has been diagnosed with ODD/ADHD and we had our first therapy session yesterday. I am so excited for all of this to take place. We were granted in so we don't even have to pay for it! Basically what they do is they put us in a way mirror where they can see us but we can't see them. I wear an ear piece where the therapist observes Kayleigh and I and then speak to me through the ear piece on how to discipline her. This is an answer to our prayers. After they get Kayleigh and I figured out, they bring in the siblings and then work on them with her. After we are all finished with that then Brent starts his sessions. We are so blessed that we have been provided with this help. We have tried everything with Kayleigh and can't find the right method to discipline her. In the fall we also start parenting classes that will help us one on one with Brent, Kayleigh and I to deal with her ODD and the ADHD as well and again it is FREE. In the fall I have to contact the school to see what services they provide.

This week we have been doing VBS and been having a blast! I have been serving in the nursery and Jordan has been serving in the game area. Kayleigh is old enough now to attend on her own. We leave every morning at 8:15 and head over to the church for breakfast. We start serving at 9:30 am. I took tons of pics of Kayleigh today and hope to post them soon. I have made even more friends through our church and am really blessed with such a wonderful church with people who genuinely cares. Brent and I really love our church and feel really blessed that God has shown us this church. Our last day is tomorrow and I am really sad:(

We leave on vacation soon for our annual road trip. Our most northerly destination is Idaho. We will tour Sequoia NP, Yosemite NP, Nevada, Idaho and Utah's capital, some ice caves, potatoe factory and much much more. I will also be visting our good friends Mandy and Brandon and some of those from high school that I just recently reconnected with on facebook, so excited!

Oh and our little Trinity turned 2 on July 13th:) We had a little birthday cake for her and a good evening spending time together.

So I think that is it, but who knows. I have had trouble downloading pics so hopefully I can soon.
